PBD STUDENT POLICIES

Syllabus Class Policy for PBD's Performing Teams
All Pacific Ballroom Dance team members enrolled on a performing team during the regular season (September - June) must be concurrently enrolled in a Pacific Ballroom Dance Syllabus Class. Students are expected to enroll in the most advanced class that is appropriate for their skill level, as determined by the Syllabus Director and the Artistic Director.

Age Eligibility Policy for PBD's Performing Teams for the 2009-2010 Year:
The following age policy applies generally to formation teams that participate in NDCA-sanctioned formation events.

PBD has chosen to follow the age guidelines established by the NDCA at its January 2009 board meeting. This ensures that all students in the program are eligible to compete as a Youth (or Junior) at all events during the year. These rules may be found at http://www.ndca.org/information/rules/rules_pdfs/Rulebook_Master.pdf. The portions of the rules (with citations) that are relevant to our policy include but are not limited to the following:

X.A.1 – Age classifications. . .will become effective on January 1st of the year in which the individual’s age classification is attained, regardless of the actual birth date.

X.A.1.e – Youth: 16th, 17th, or 18th birthday.

X.A.5 – The following rules apply to competitors age 18 and under:

X.A.5.e – Youth competitors turning 19 years of age in the calendar year may still dance as youths until they have graduated from “High School.”

Therefore, because we want to ensure competition eligibility for the entire PBD season, students participating in NDCA –sanctioned formation team events must not turn 19 years old at any point during the second calendar year of PBD’s season. Please note that a student turning 19 years old during the second calendar year may be eligible to participate on a team participating in NDCA-sanctioned formation team events under the exception in Rule X.A.5.e. In order to qualify under this exception for PBD, the following conditions must be met: (1) the student must still be enrolled in high school; and (2) the student must still be 18 years old through June 1.

At the present time, only the Youth Premier Team participates in NDCA-sanctioned formation team events.

All other teams in the PBD program (i.e., those teams not participating in NDCA-sanctioned formation team events) will follow the above rule with the following modification:

Individuals who (i) have previously graduated from high school and (ii) are turning 19 no sooner than June 1 of the subsequent calendar year are eligible to participate in PBD’s formation teams.
