Who We Are

Pacific Ballroom Dance (PBD) is the only youth formation ballroom dance company in the Pacific Northwest. With PBD, youth between the ages of 12 and 21 have the opportunity to learn and perform ballroom dance—from the more formal standard dances such as Waltz and Foxtrot, to fiery Latin dances such as Samba and Cha Cha.

As stated in our mission, we aim, above all, to provide a positive environment where youth can build character while learning how to dance. Partner dancing is the tool that we use to help young people learn principles such as teamwork, commitment, excellence, and leadership. We expect a high level of discipline from our dancers—and they consistently meet our expectations.

Not only are we committed to our dancers, but we are also committed to our art. We strive to produce artistic excellence through technical ballroom dancing. This year we have adjusted our program so that the dancers will have additional training in technique and fundamentals. Additionally, we continually aspire to produce creative and original choreography that will both challenge and bring fulfillment to our dancers, and entertain and uplift our audiences.

Without the extensive support of our volunteer association, our program would not be possible. As a non-profit organization, PBD relies heavily on gifts of time and money from the community. We have an outstanding parent committee that provides most of our volunteer support. In addition, many local businesses regularly lend their assistance and are great friends to the dance team

What We Do

Pacific Ballroom Dance offers team members opportunities to learn, perform, compete, and serve in the community.

LEARN
New students begin their dance education in the Intro Classes.  The Intro classes provide dancers with a foundation in ballroom dancing.  In each 8-week class, students learn a variety of dances and fundamental concepts such as good posture, proper dance position, rhythm, and footwork.  As students progress, they move into our technique program that is based on a medals system, with classes at Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels.

PERFORM
Dancers have the opportunity to try out for one of our Performing Teams.  Tryouts are held in the spring and in the fall.  At the tryouts, students may be placed on either the Intermediate or the Advanced Performing Team.  As part of a performing team, a dancer will learn choreographed numbers and will have many chances to perform in both public and private venues.  The capstone event of the year is the Spring Concert, where dancers showcase what they have learned throughout the year.

COMPETE
Each spring, our most advanced dancers have the opportunity to be a part of our competition team and travel to the United States Youth Formation Championships in Provo, Utah.  This competition gives them an opportunity to see how they compare to teams from all over the country. The team also competes at local Pacific Northwest competitions.  Students have the chance to compete as individual partnerships at these events.  We offer a competition class for students desiring a competitive experience.

SERVE
Through Community Service Opportunities, we help our students use their dancing abilities to serve and interact with people in the community.  We provide workshops for organization such as retirement centers, youth groups, and school assemblies where dancers teach and dance with those they are serving. The dancers usually provide a performance as part of the workshop.
